SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competency that that will enhance their employment prospects in related fields. The program is appropriate for a person preparing to work in the Hairdressing Industry as a hairdressing assistant. The student will learn how to provide a range of hairdressing services for clients, under supervision.
Duration: 1 or 2 years
Units of Study:
- Contribute to health and safety of self and others
- Provide shampoo and basin services
- Dry hair to shape
- Maintain and organise tools and equipment work areas
- Conduct salon financial transactions
- Greet and prepare clients for salon services
- Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment
- Communicate as part of a salon team
- Apply hair colour products
- Provide head, neck and shoulder massages for relaxation
- Receive and handle stock
- Sell to the retail customer
- Design and apply make-up
VCE & ATAR Contribution:
Students who receive a VCE VET Units 3 & 4 sequence for Salon Assistant will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10 per cent of the lowest study score of the primary four studies). This subject is not available for VCE scored assessment.
